HOW to GET RID of BOX ELDER BUGS

Box Elder Bugs do not make many damages to the house. However, they will come into the homes during the winter to protect themselves against the cold. Adult box elder bugs are about 1/2'' long. They are either bright red or black with narrow reddish lines on the back. Box elders may puncture the skin which will cause a slight irritation. Box elder bugs will leave the house when spring arrives and the winter cold days end.

BOX ELDER INSPECTION

Box elders are mostly found sucking juice from box elder trees and other trees. They do not do damage to the trees which they suck juice from. Box elder bugs seek shelter in houses and other buildings, cracks and crevices, walls, doors, under windows, around the sill, attics, and other structures.

BOX ELDER CONTROL METHODS

Box Elder Prevention:

By caulking cracks and around utility openings, fixing window and door screens, fixing cracks in the foundation and roofs will help prevent box elder bugs from infesting the house.

Crack and Crevice/Voids Treatment:

This treatment is used by liquid spray (DEMON WP, CYPER WP, CYNOFF WP, SUSPEND SC) using a hand one gallon sprayer (CHAPIN 1 GALLON SPRAYER), dust (DELTA DUST, DRIONE DUST) using a duster (BELLOW DUSTER, CENTROBULB DUSTER), or aerosol (V CLEAN-OUT FOGGER, V ONE PYRETHRUM, JK27 RESIDUAL).?Using the instructed amount on the label for liquid (DEMON WP, CYPER WP, CYNOFF WP, SUSPEND SC) and dust fill the hand sprayer (CHAPIN 1 GALLON SPRAYER) with the amount suggested and dust (DELTA DUST, DRIONE DUST) into the duster (BELLOW DUSTER, CENTROBULB DUSTER) and spray the aerosol products (V CLEAN-OUT FOGGER, V ONE PYRETHRUM, JK27 RESIDUAL) apply to cracks and crevices, around window frames, around the window sill, doors. The void treatment is suggested that it be done by dust (DELTA DUST, DRIONE DUST) using a duster (BELLOW DUSTER, CENTROBULB DUSTER), and aerosol (V CLEAN-OUT FOGGER, V ONE PYRETHRUM, JK27 RESIDUAL). You will need to make an access to the void where it is infested (i.e. drilling a hole near the infested area or removing an electric outlet cover) and apply the instructed amount of dust (DELTA DUST) using a duster with an extension (BELLOW DUSTER, CENTROBULB DUSTER) into the void. Remember not to dust directly into the hole but onto the sides, because the dust might blow out.?DO NOT OVER USE DUST and do not apply dust where children or pets may touch. For aerosol products (V CLEAN-OUT FOGGER, V ONE PYRETHRUM, JK27 RESIDUAL), you will need to attach a thin straw to the applicator and spray into the void. Be cautious when you are using this product around electric object because aerosols are liquid.

Broadcast/ Barrier Treatments:

Broadcast treatments are used for large turfs, other landscape areas, and the whole entire lawn. Following the directions for the use on specific amounts of the product to be applied as a liquid spray (DEMON WP, CYPER WP, CYNOFF WP, SUSPEND SC) using a hand one gallon sprayer (CHAPIN 1 GALLON SPRAYER), granule (TALSTAR PL GRANULAR , BIFEN GRANULES ) using a hand spreader (HANDLE SPREADER ). Using the amount instructed for the liquid spray (DEMON WP, CYPER WP, CYNOFF WP, SUSPEND SC), use a mist nozzle setting and treat the entire lawn. For the granule application (TALSTAR PL GRANULAR , BIFEN GRANULES ), use the amount instructed on the label and using the spreader (HANDLE SPREADER ), spread the whole entire lawn, large turfs, and other landscape areas and then irrigate the lawn to activate the granules. A barrier treatment is used when you want to make one around your home. These treatments are applied by liquid spray (DEMON WP, CYPER WP, CYNOFF WP, SUSPEND SC) using a hand sprayer (CHAPIN 1 GALLON SPRAYER) and granule (TALSTAR PL GRANULAR , BIFEN GRANULES ) using a hand spreader (HANDLE SPREADER ). These are sometimes called a perimeter treatment, where soil areas are adjacent to a structure as well as a portion of the lower foundation wall next to the soil treated. You will treat the barrier treatment the same as a broadcast treatment except, you only need to treat around the home instead of the whole lawn.
