Lady bugs are also known as Asian Lady Beetle. Lady bugs do not bite or sting, carry diseases, breed indoors, feed or do damage to anything in the house. Lady bugs only come into the home during the winter to seek shelter. Adult lady bugs are oval, convex, around 1/4'' long. Their color is pale yellow-orange to dark orange-red, the colors differ from different Asian lady beetle species, but in the United States they are often found as red or orange with black spots. Lady bugs do not like shady areas. Lady bugs will crawl through little cracks and crevices or natural breaks in the window panes, door jams as the temperature gets colder. They are attracted to brighter/lighter colored buildings and especially to homes that sun shines on frequently.
Lady bugs are tree-dwelling insects, so any home that is near or surrounded by trees are most likely to have an infestation. Some lady bugs prefer to cluster on the sides of homes and other foundations. They can also be found under bark or in leaf litter during the fall.
