BIOLOGY OF GERMAN ROACH
The German cockroach is one of the most common roaches found in apartment houses, restaurants, and hotels. German cockroaches (eggsincluded), are brought in, usually on man's belongings, luggage, boxes or packages. All it takes, is bringing in one egg capsule, six months later you do have an infestation.
Females produce one egg capsule every 3-4 weeks. Each capsule contains 25-45 eggs. The female will carry the egg capsule with her until it is ready to hatch. The young(nymphs) will be able to breed in as little as 36 days. Adult German roaches can live up to one year These roaches are mostly active at night .
If they are seen during the day, it is usually because their hiding places are overcrowded due to a large population or there is a shortage of food and water supply.
Any crack or crevice located near a source of food and/or water is prime harborage, and they spend about 75% of their time in such harborages. First instar nymphs require a crack of about 1/32" whereas, adults require a crack of about 3/16" in width.
Infestations are generally found in kitchens and bathrooms, but can inhabit other areas if there is a heavy population or you have run them into each other with the repellent effect of insecticides.
APPEARANCE of GERMAN ROACH
Most cockroaches have a flattened, oval shape, spiny legs, and long, filamentous antennae. Immature stages are smaller, have undeveloped wings and resemble the adults. Adult German cockroaches are light tan to medium brown except for the shield behind the head marked with two dark stripes (separated by a lighter stripe), which run lengthwise on the body.
Adults are about 1/2 to 5/8-inch long and have wings, but rarely fly. Wings cover the entire abdomen of females and all except the abdominal tip in males. The male is light brown and rather boat-shaped, whereas the female is slightly darker with a broader, rounded posterior. Young roaches (nymphs) are wingless and nearly black with a single light stripe, separating two black bands, running down about halfway of the middle of the back. Egg capsules are light tan and less than 1/4-inch long.
GERMAN COCKROACH CONTROL
COCKROACH BAITS: Advion Roach Bait Gel, Avert Dry Flowable Bait, Maxforce Roach Bait Gel, and Maxforce Roach Bait Stations
A new bait on the market called Advion Roach Bait Gel has proven to be very effective on German Roaches.
Avert Dry Flowable Cockroach Bait remains effective for more than one year after initial treatment. The dry formula reaches void areas that gels and bait stations cannot reach. Avert Dry Flowable Bait Placements: Avert Dry Flowable is intended for application with the provided crack and crevice bait extension tube. Apply insecticide directly into cracks and crevics. Apply lightly and uniformly to infested areas. Pay particular attention to cracks and crevices and hidden surfaces around sinks and storage areas, behind baseboards, around doors, and windows, behind cabinets, stoves, and behind refrigerators.
Maxforce Roach Gel has been proven very effective against the German Roach. We also carry Maxforce FC Magnum Roach Bait Gel -Fipronil.
The active ingredient in Maxforce FC Magnum, Fipronil, provides a unique mode of action that works through both ingestion and contact, knocking down roaches and ants that eat or simply touch the bait. Either way, one contaminated roach or ant kills many others where they live and breed. The Domino Effect still achieves population control, but with faster visible results.
Before treating any areas it is best to first take a flashlight and check these types of areas for nesting sites. You will be looking for their excrement droppings(looks like black pepper). You may also want to use a aerosol with pryethrin like JK27 Residual 15 oz ,or V One Pyrethrum Aerosol sprayed to flush-out roaches out of these harboraging places . These pyrethin areosols will kill on contact, and serve you to find out where the German Cockroaches are nesting. Once you have determined where the roaches are nesting, it may be easier to know where to apply the Max Force gel bait.
Maxforce or Advion Bait Placement Behind kitchen cabinets and counter tops.
Each roach feeding on Maxforce Roach Gel will kill up to 40 other roaches via droppings and dead bodies. Roaches are cannibalistic and will eat other dead or dying roaches. The roaches are not social insects like ants and termites, they do not carry the bait back to feed the young. When baiting is important to re-bait in the areas where the the roaches are taking the bait. Paying attention to this will speed up the process.
Advion Roach Bait Arena and or Maxforce Roach Bait Stations are both useful as a roach bait. The use of the roach stations are slower acting than the gel forms, but will last for several months without drying out. Advion Arena Roach Bait is the newest on the market with great results.
Insect Growth Regulators for Cockroaches
Gentrol Aerosol (IGR) Gentrol IGR Liquid 1oz Gentrol Point Source Using insect growth regulators like Gentrol Aerosol breaks the cycle. It attacks the male nymph roach(mutating reproductive abilities) and causes the pregnant female to consume the bait when she would normally not want to consume food during part of her pregnancy. We carry Gentrol in the aerosol form, Gentrol liquid form, and Gentrol point source form.
Another important tool, would be the use of roach traps with a pheremone to lure them inside the trap: Victor Pheromone Roach Trap is and excellent roach trap. These traps are excellent for monitoring tools as well.
Other Aerosols and Bombs to Kill Cockroaches, use a residual insecticide aerosol like D-Force HPX Aerosol if you need a sliqhtly quicker start before killing the entire roach population with Maxforce Roach Bait. However the Maxforce Roach Bait is so effective, many find they don't need to use such an aerosol. When using this residual insecticide (D-Force HPX Aerosol), don't place the bait out yet, because it would contaminate it.....wait about 10 days. D-Force contains Deltamethrin.
First we recommend using D-Force HPX Aerosol in all the cracks and crevices as well as behind cabinets, under refrigerators, behind stoves, ovens and dishwashers, if needed for the initial kill, if needed. At this point you can use insect growth inhibitors such as the Gentrol Aerosol, Gentrol Liquid or Gentrol Point Sources, treating area and the cracks and crevices without contamination. Wait 10-14 days ,then apply Maxforce Roach Bait Gel in numerous small bait placements in cracks and crevices n cabinets and drawers, also place behind the cabinets, under refrigerators, behind stoves, ovens, and dishwashers.
The D-Force HPX Aerosol is intended for an initial knockdown when there is a need to cut out a percentage of the population immediately, the Maxforce Roach Bait Gel is intended to really cut into the population over the following two weeks, with the Gentrol Insect Growth Regulator helping the baiting and breaking into the cycle.
We also carry other insecticides, baits, and dust not listed here.
